Edward/Jasper
M Hurt/Comfort
Completed Multi-Chapter
This story starts out with Edward working at his parents antique store, taking apart an antique clock, when a man walks into the shop wanting more information on a pocket watch he found in his Grandmother's personal possessions. Edward is intrigued, and decides to help him if he can. He soon finds out Jasper is the last of his family, when his parents died he was left to care for his Grandmother. Her health has declined and recently she has entered a care home.
When Edward examines the watch he finds a surprise inside....a photo of two men, and an inscription. "H, So I am with you always, Forever yours, B" Jasper is stunned. He recognizes his Grandfather as one of the men in the photo, but has no idea who the other man is, or who's initial is "B". Jasper explains to Edward that his Grandmother has dementia, and while he would really like to ask her for more information about the watch, he's just not sure she's capable of helping him. Edward offers to go with him to talk to her, and to be there for Jasper if he needs it.
Going to visit his Grandmother Maria, proves very frustrating; she's in and out of reality. It's hard to tell sometimes exactly what she's talking about. Edward learns that Jasper has been on his own, since he graduated college his parents have died, and now he's left solely to care for his Gramma. It's alot for a 23 year old to deal with, in doing that Jasper has distanced himself from personal relationships, and any type of physical contact with another person. He has truly been alone for the past year.
Through their conversations with Maria, and with the help of Edward, Jasper finally figures out who the other man is and what their story was. The knowledge is both comforting, and heartbreaking for Jasper, but it leads him down a new path in his own life, that includes Edward. He finally does get closure, and the story comes full circle, when in the last chapter, which is actually an outtake, we learn the real story behind the watch.
This story really is very sweet and heart wrenching, you feel Jasper's frustration and all consuming sadness. Edward is very much there for him, and willing to do whatever he needs to do to help Jasper find the answers he needs. The story is only 7 chapters, so a quick read...but a really good read. Enjoy.
